The Space Nation brand identity is represented by a graphic, explicit, clean mark that symbolizes the company’s name: Space and Nation. The logo creates a welcoming and accessible tone for the brand. The logotype depicts the technical aspects of space travel. Combined with the symbol, it represents a connection between the nation and space travel.
The Gagarin typeface was explicitly created for Space Nation’s brand identity and features a Latin character set. It’s used in the main elements of the brand, including the logo and sub-brand logos. The typeface’s use can also extend to other aspects of the brand.
The brand system uses a modern and light grotesque typeface called NB Akademie, which gives the brand a professional and systematic look. A monotype cut of NB Akademie brings more structure and detail to the brand identity.
To create diversity and differentiation between sub-brands and the mother brand, four gradient colour schemes were introduced for Space Nation. Four different solid colour palettes were also made based on the gradient schemes. The Cassiopeia colour palette (blue) is the primary colour palette for the Space Nation mother brand. In contrast, the Hydra colour palette (red) is used for accent colours. The brand identity features a combination of gradients and solid colours.
The brand images are organised into three levels: The Reflection, The Mind, and The Eye. The Reflection images show people looking towards the future with expressions of excitement, awe, and hope. The Mind images focus on learning and constantly searching for new things. The Eye images show individuals looking to the sky, with space reflections visible on the eye’s surface, revealing the space inside us all.
In addition to digital formats, a physical brand guidelines manual was created to provide a more tangible experience of the visual identity. The manual emphasizes the importance and value of the designed systems at hand.
The visual identity was also implemented across different web platforms.
The Space Nation Astronaut Program, created in collaboration with Axiom Space and NASA, offers a range of astronaut training experiences, starting with an app called Space Nation Navigator and progressing to boot camps, parabolic flights, and, ultimately, multiple trips to space. The brand identity’s visual language is designed to capture the fun yet scientific process of the program, using gradient colour schemes, brand images, motion design, and illustrations.
